Signs You Need to Call an Exterminator for Bedbugs, Now!

Of all the pests that run around your house, bedbugs are arguably the worst! While other pests destroy your belongings and foods, bedbugs feast on something far more precious—you!

Since they’re mostly active at night, they bite and sting when you’re fast asleep, contributing to insomnia and emotional distress. As per a report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, bedbugs are usually found in mattresses, beds, couches, apartments, hotel rooms, railway cabinets, and dorm rooms. The report also suggests that bedbugs have little to do with an unkempt or unclean space. They can even be present in expensive, five-star hotels.

This post will familiarize you with some telltale signs that your house is home to bedbugs:

Waking up with bites

It’s not easy to differentiate a bedbug bite from that of another insect. Bedbug bites are most visible right after you wake up.

Other than that, these bites look like red welts or small red bumps that itch. Bedbugs only target exposed skin, so you’re more likely to find them on your arms, feet, and legs.

Unlike other pests, bedbugs bite their host in more than one place, so check to see if there is a zigzag pattern.

The bite’s effects range from mild to severe irritation and rashes.

Eggs

Eggs are also a common sign of an infestation. Bedbugs lay eggs in clusters, which makes them very visible. These eggs are white and are mostly found along a mattress seam or box spring crevasses. An average female bedbug can lay as many as five eggs a day. The more eggs you see, the more severe the infestation.

One of the most effective ways to get rid of these eggs is to use a stiff brush and rub it against the seam of your mattress where the cluster lies. By brushing the area, you destroy the surface of the eggs. However, for greater efficiency, you need to get in touch with a professional service.

Strange odor

The odor let by bedbugs might not be too recognizable at first, but you’ll be able to identify it once the population expands. This strange odor becomes prominent when bedbugs are multiplying and growing. The odor is slightly sweet and musty.

It’s somewhat similar to what you’d smell if you left rotten coriander or berries in a room. The smell gets stronger when you’re near the bed or other furniture.

At times, the smell also comes from the traces of blood that bedbugs leave behind. In this case, you might be able to see small spots too.
