Most Disastrous Garden Pests
It takes a whole lot of time and effort to maintain a garden. Many people enjoy gardening as a hobby, even though it’s quite a hands-on job. The plants growing in gardens are prone to pests; it’s your job to keep them away.
Here are some of the most destructive garden pests that you need to be wary of:
Aphids
Although they don’t look like they do much, these pear-shaped critters have antennas and tubes projecting from their abdomen. These pests attract fruit trees, vegetable plants, shade trees, flowers, and ornamentals. They suck the sap of a plant, which causes the foliage to distort. As a result, leaves begin to drop and within no time, the plant is ruined.
Cabbage maggot
This particular pest is known to attack the cabbage family of plants. These maggots attack the root of the plant, hence killing it directly or making it vulnerable to contracting diseases.
Caterpillars
Caterpillars are segmented larvae with an outer shell and many legs. They develop most commonly in fruits and vegetables, but can be found on leaves as well. These pests chew on leaves and may also chew into fruit and destroy them.
Colorado potato beetle
Don’t be fooled by the cute name of this pest. These beetles are yellow and orange with black stripes. They are not only known to attack potato crops, but they also attack eggplants, tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, and cherry tomatoes. These beetles have the capability to reduce the yield of plants and can even kill younger plants.
Mexican bean beetle
These beetles look similar to a ladybug, except they are mustard in color. As the name suggests, these beetles attack beans like snap beans, soybeans, lima beans, cowpeas, and many other bean plants.
Flea beetle
Flea beetles are tiny little insects that are dark green in color. These beetles most commonly hang around vegetable crops. These beetles chew through leaves, which can be quite damaging for young plants. The larvae feed on plant roots as well, which poses a bigger threat.
Tarnished plant bug
These quick, little insects are a mottled green mixed with some brown speckles. They manage to hide pretty effectively in the plants they attack. They are commonly found on flowers, vegetables, and fruits plants. Adult bugs suck the juices out of the plants through their leaves causing distortion and wilting.
